Vacation Edition: Seattle 2009 Part 1

A few weeks ago I went to Seattle to see my boyfriend and went to some really good places to eat.

Of course, I came during the Heatwave of the Northwest… but still that didn’t stop me getting my grub on.

One of the first places I went, was Jack in the Box. I know it is really not worth blogging about, however we lack that fast food chain in New York, so I needed to have it after a seven hour flight.

They did a new promotion on the Mini Buffalo Ranch Chicken Sandwiches. Sorry there isn’t a picture, but it was pretty good and had enough spice to get me to drink lots of iced tea.

We also had the mango iced tea. On the first sip, I have noticed something that I never noticed before from other fast food chains. The iced tea was real tea. A little too concentrated for my taste but it was still authentic tea.

So I give Jack in the Box’s Mini Buffalo Ranch Chicken Sandwiches a: omnomomnom

Day 2:
The west coast is popularly known for their fresh seafood. I discovered the Crab Pot through Travel Channel’s TV show, Man VS Food. I also wanted to show off the all seafood ‘feast’ that my uncle back home was missing.

Normally, in New York or New Jersey, they’d have Seafeast for around $50 or more. But the prices for the restaurant range from $15-35 depending how much a person would be able to eat.

Little did my boyfriend know that our destination had a lake under the restaurant. He did not believe it until we arrived.

There was some waiting time before we sat on our table. But it was spacious and the booth had paper towels in each table for the soon-to-be huge mess.

When we ordered the Seafeast, our server gave us bibs and utensils of mass destruction. She came back with a large paper sheet and a large mixing bowl for the shells.

Ferrara’s

I found Ferrara’s walking around for dessert since my friend and I have a sweet tooth. I wanted my boyfriend to try it out since he never had a gourmet dessert before.

What is great about this cafe is that it has a take out line too!

Their style is Italian. Compared to the other bakeries in Little Italy the dine-in area is huge, also the second floor is dedicated to parties. Staff is very friendly as well.

I went here with my boyfriend for our early third anniversary celebration. It was one of the places where we had our dates (cue the “awww”).

Danku

I apologize in advance for not posting for a long time. My computer blew up and I forgot my password. But today I bring you my review for Danku.

Danku is a Dutch fusion Indonesian “fast food” joint in Midtown known for their Krokets. Reading about it so many times, I never really got to try it. Luckily, I was in the area.

Danku
Where: 47 W 57th Street (between 5th & 6th Ave)
Genre:Dutch/Indonesian
Price Range: $ – $$

My sister wanted to go somewhere for lunch around the area and discovered Danku. I wanted to see what the hype was about. Their menu sounded pretty good from the window so I decided to try it. There wasn’t a lot of people since it was about an hour before lunch hit.

Chikalicious

The sweet stuff! I believe this is my first post on dessert :o

After my boyfriend and I went to get our munch on for dinner we headed out for dessert to Chikalicious.

I have been there before, but only to the bakery for cupcakes. But this time I wanted to try the pre-fixe bar menu. It does get a little confusing where to go though. The bakery and the dessert bar are across the street from each other.

Where: 203 E 10th St (Btwn 1st & 2nd Ave), New York 10003

Probably one of the worst services I had: Quickly

So some people might not have any problems with this bubble-tea chain, but I did. After seeing this them all over the place, I decided to try it out.

I was in Brooklyn, 8th Ave. The Chinatown of Brooklyn.

Quickly
Where: 5924 8th Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11220
Genre: cafe
Price Range: $

Well, I haven’t had rude servers loooong time. As far as I remember, even from my sale associate days, I’m pretty sure it wasn’t part of the training to patronize the customer.

I ordered their ‘famous’ milk bubble tea with the black tapioca pearls. However, unknown to most people… at least the Asians should know this especially in the Brooklyn area, there is a Hong Kong Style tea. I got nothing but a snotty barista mimicking me asking for HK style tea and laughing at me.

May’s Place Sushi

I was introduced to this restaurant by one of my friends and I think it’s one of the better places for sushi… better than some of other places I’ve tried.

This place used to be called Sushi Park. I’m not sure if it’s under new management or something…

May’s Place Sushi
Where: 121 E 2nd Ave (between 7th St & St Marks Pl)
Genre: Japanese, Sushi
Price Range: $ – $$

I went to the restaurant with my boyfriend, so prices will be different from my previous reviews.
We had the some of the restaurant’s special maki rolls… which I don’t remember what they were called but know what was inside it lol.

Brgr

Walking past the place so many times, I decided to check it out. Although, I did read from other places and their window that they’re mostly known for their shakes, but I didn’t try it since, heh, I only had $10 to spend and the rest was for the Metrocard to take train back home.

Brgr
Where: 287 7th Ave (between 26th and 27th)
Genre: Burgers, American
Price Range: Menu Pages says is $ but I fail to see the burgers that cheap, my own rating is $$

First Om Nom Nom~ Pita Grill

I actually meant to post up sooner, but I either got lazy or completely forgot about it. Well, as you know from my profile post, I’ve set up my mission statement for reasonably price foods around my mission area, Chelsea, or better known as the Garment District.

So without further ado, here I present my first post.

On my long break from class, I went to visit the restaurant Pita Grill.

Pita Grill
Where: 291 7th Ave
Genre: Heath Food
Price Range: $$

I had the Tandoori Chicken Wrap as a ‘lunch special’:
Tandoori Chicken Wrap @ Pita Grill
Excuse my awesome photography skills…

What was in it?: Basmati rice, mango, grilled Tandoori chicken, peppers, lettuce, onion, and mango chutney. With the ‘lunch special’, it came with salad and a drink.

The salad…it was pretty small, nothing but romaine lettuce and I was not given a dressing, so it was pretty plan and pretty tasteless.

As for the drink, I could have chosen something else, but I chose water. They gave me Dasani water.

Now, the wrap… it was tasteless. The chicken had very little flavor and it was dry. The rice wasn’t even completely basmati rice, it was mixed in with long grain rice. I couldn’t taste the mango chutney at all what so ever. The vegetables had their own flavor and frankly I couldn’t taste anything else.

How much did you spend?: The wrap with the lunch special was: $7.95 + tax = $8.65
Within my budget?: This meal was $.65 over my lunch budget.

Thoughts: According to their menu from outside the restaurant, these wraps were new and I thought it sounded friggin good, but it came out to be a huge disappointment. I could have chosen other things in the menu, but it was the lunch special and I thought I could have save some money. It obviously it didn’t turn out that way though. The restaurant was very well kept, but the bathroom is pretty average. Overall, I don’t think I will be visiting this place again, unless their price range drops dramatically, and being a heath restaurant, I doubt it will.
